The Cairns campus of James Cook university is surrounded on three sides by rainforest-clad mountains. Home to some 4000 students, it boasts agreeable brutalist architecture, an intimate community college feel and compact design with numerous leafy, shaded break out zones, as well as a student refectory and café. The campus is a short walk to a small shopping centre with supermarket, bottle shop and other amenities including a range of take away food options.
