Accommodation

Cairns tends to be overrun by tourists, so booking your lodgings early is highly advisable. The contemporary hip conference delegate is of course usually ahead of the organisers in figuring out where they want to stay, aided by Google and AirBnB and Lonely Planet and Booking.com and Stayz.com.au. When searching for accommodation, check the distance to the conference venue, address James Cook University, Cairns campus, 1/14 88 McGregor Rd, Smithfield QLD 4878, Australia.

However, the conference also has recommendations, some of these coming with special prices.

The Cairns campus of James Cook university is surrounded on three sides by rainforest-clad mountains. Home to some 4000 students, it boasts agreeable brutalist architecture, an intimate community college feel and compact design with numerous leafy, shaded break out zones, as well as a student refectory and café. The campus is a short walk to a small shopping centre with supermarket, bottle shop and other amenities including a range of take away food options. Located in the suburb of Smithfield, the campus is 15 kilometres north of the Cairns CBD. The campus is serviced by a regular bus route to the CBD and northern beaches. The beach side suburbs such as Trinity and Palm Cove offer a range of accommodation and dining options. Please note that JCU is a smoke-free campus.
